For this project, I thought about how movement and transportation influence one’s experiences of places and people. I compared my modes of transportation in the United States to those I had used as a child in Italy during a transformative trip to the country and imagined/described retracing the steps of my childhood self. To reflect this in the visual elements of the video, I utilized maps, photos from my trip, found images and videos, and video of my current self—both speaking and while riding a bike, one of the methods of transportation I discuss. The goal was to invoke how we can be inspired and impacted by our past selves, and how experiences are rooted in physical space.

About Sadie Parent

I am a triple major in Gender and Women's Studies, Italian, and Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and Law. In my free time, I love reading, baking, and hiking in the many beautiful areas around Tucson. Recently, I have enjoyed engaging with Italian books and shows to improve my fluency and cultural competency. In the future, I plan to pursue further education and a career in human rights practice and/or public policy, focusing on gender-based violence issues.
