Student Projects

Music has always held a special place in my heart. Before I had enrolled in an Italian class, I would try to learn through memorizing songs. Thus, it seemed natural that to practice I would try writing a song in Italian.

Le Domande Silenziose was a project that I used to fulfil my honors requirement of Italian 201.

This project is in the chapter of Design. Learners had to re-envision a designer product with a new function, purpose and message.

A student of Italian beginner, second semester, from the fully online summer course (Summer-2025) was able to put into practice his language skills and create something that will not only be useful for his work as a cello professor, but he also can share it with the community of fellow music instructors.

In the module on immigration learners learned about Igiaba Scego and the genre of graphic journalism. This example is a result of a teamwork of students that tell a story of an immigrant.

I created a movie-style trailer to help visitors from Italy learn about the different transportation options on our campus. Filming it was a blast. I explored the campus, capturing all the ways people get around, almost like a scavenger hunt.

This project started out as a travel itinerary that I put together for my own trip to Italy. In creating my itinerary, I saw how difficult it can be trying to navigate and decide what to do or what to see when travelling to a new city.

After observing the images used in various awareness campaigns for environmental protection (LINK), students, working in groups of three, identified an environmental issue they felt personally connected to and created their own advertising campaign. They presented the problem and came up with a slogan that could capture attention.

I created a poster encouraging people to think twice about how much plastic they use. Microplastics are such a problem that they can even be found in our food. By including a plastic apple on my poster, I hope people will think twice about the fact that plastic is becoming part of our everyday diet, even if not quite on a macro scale yet.

While I was studying abroad in Italy through the Immersive Italian Study Abroad program, the final assignment for one of my classes was to create a video that documented my experience abroad.

In the film, I show some of the modes of transportation I use on campus in my everyday life and compare some of the differences between transportation in Italy and here in Tucson. This project was inspired by a documentary trailer Italy love it or leave it that we watched and analyzed in class. 

For this project, I thought about how movement and transportation influence one’s experiences of places and people. I compared my modes of transportation in the United States to those I had used as a child in Italy during a transformative trip to the country and imagined/described retracing the steps of my childhood self.
