This project is in the chapter of Design. Learners had to re-envision a designer product with a new function, purpose and message. The final project is inspired by the Alessi 100 initiative, aimed at celebrating the centenary of the Italian design brand (1921-2021), promoting new versions of its iconic objects inspired by the values that define Alessi’s identity and practice. After analyzing in class Alessi’s values (industrial craftsmanship, art, paradox, beyond, hybridization, research lab, irony, borderline, as per the Alessi website) and the objects associated with them, students in small groups must choose another Alessi object, connect it to one of the values, and develop ideas for its new version, working on colors, form, and function.
