From French to Family Medicine

Studying French at the UA, Dr. Rachel Stringer (BA French and Women's Studies) learned more than just a language - she learned a new way of viewing the world. Dr. Stringer attended medical school at the UA before completing her residency in Family Medicine at Offutt Air Force Base. She is currently stationed in Alaska, where she serves as medical director for the Family Health Clinic and Ambulance Service in addition to providing care for military beneficiaries. Come learn how her background in the Humanities has been helping her in her trajectory.

"Studying other cultures and languages strengthened my ability to empathize, understand, and communicate with my patients and develop effective therapeutic relationships." -Dr. Rachel Stringer, BA French 2012.

When
7 – 8 p.m., Nov. 22, 2019

On November 22, Borbi Gaspar and Letizia Bellocchio organized a Cookout event with ITALIAN 202 and 301 students. Students were cooking Italian dishes such as pizza margherita, fiorentina steak, and different kinds of homemade pasta, appetizers, and desserts in the UofA Nutritional Sciences department professional kitchen (Shantz Building). During this interactive and hands-on cookout event students had the chance to get to know many different traditional Italian recipes while they learned about the regional diversity of the Italian culture. This event was made possible thanks to an SFI Grant and the Lab Program Coordinator Constance Bell’s amazing support.
